The Cholera Gazette, Vol. I. No. 4. Wednesday, August 1st, 1832.

In the summer of 1832, cholera swept through American cities with terrifying speed. This issue of The Cholera Gazette captures a moment of medical crisis and transformation - doctors watching patients die within hours, their bodies drained of fluid, desperately trying a radical new treatment: salt water injected directly into the veins. Thomas Latta and Robert Lewins report on their early experiments with saline infusion, the first fragile attempts to replenish what the disease had stolen. The pages also track the epidemic's spread through Albany and New York City, recording death counts, public panic, and the desperate measures cities undertook. This is not a polished historical account but something more valuable: raw contemporaneous documentation from inside a pandemic, when no one knew what worked and everyone was afraid. For readers interested in medical history, epidemics, or the birth of modern clinical practice, these yellowed pages offer an extraordinary window into a world grappling with a killer it barely understood - and slowly, uncertainly, beginning to fight back.
