Tarzan Triumphant

1931. The Soviet Union is five years old, and Edgar Rice Burroughs imagines its shadow stretching all the way into the African jungle. When Lady Barbara Collis, an aviator lost in the clouds, parachutes into a hidden valley in the Ghenzi Mountains, she stumbles upon something far more dangerous than the wilderness: the last remnants of a two-thousand-year-old cult, their ancient Christian faith twisted into something monstrous. They want her for a human sacrifice. Meanwhile, Soviet agent Stabutch operates under direct orders from Stalin, hunting for something valuable in the dark heart of the continent. And in the remote villages, Chief Kabariga pleads for Tarzan's help against slave raiders who massacre without mercy. What follows is classic Burroughs: action, intrigue, and the supreme confidence of a hero who moves through the jungle like it was made for him. But there's something more here. Burroughs, writing at the height of pre-war tension, pits not just man against man but civilization against something older and stranger. The cultists claim descent from Rome itself. Their "faith" has curdled over centuries into something unrecognizable. Tarzan must navigate Soviet conspiracies, rescue a woman who has no business being there, and remind everyone that the jungle belongs to him. For readers who want their adventure pure and uncomplicated, who don't mind a little period exoticism with their thrills, this is pulp fiction at its most enjoyable.
