Published in 1913, 'Ruth Fielding of the Red Mill' is the first book in the Ruth Fielding series by Alice B. Emerson, a pseudonym for the Stratemeyer Syndicate. The story follows recently-orphaned Ruth Fielding as she moves to Cheslow, New York, to live with her estranged Uncle Jabez. As she navigates her new life, Ruth makes friends with the local children, faces challenges with her uncle, and encounters a difficult peer.
