Recollections of Full Years

Helen Herron Taft’s *Recollections of Full Years* offers an intimate, unprecedented look into the life of a political spouse who navigated the corridors of power during a pivotal era. From her early days as a Cincinnati socialite to her husband William Howard Taft’s ascent through the ranks of American politics, this memoir chronicles a remarkable journey. A significant portion details her experiences as Governor-General's wife in the Philippines, providing a unique, if culturally outsider's, perspective on a complex colonial period, punctuated by vivid travelogues spanning Japan, Cuba, and Hawaii. The narrative culminates in her groundbreaking tenure as First Lady, offering a rare glimpse into White House life and her deliberate expansion of the role, concluding with the Taft administration's departure.
