Princess Passes
Published in the early 20th century, 'The Princess Passes' by Charles Norris Williamson follows an American heiress, known as the Manitou Princess, who escapes to Europe after discovering her fiancé's love for her wealth rather than for her. Disguised in male attire, she embarks on a walking tour of the Alps, where she encounters Monty Lane, a jilted English lord. The novel blends romance and comedy, echoing Shakespearean themes of cross-dressing and mistaken identities, while also incorporating automobile-themed sequences reflective of pre-World War I Europe. Co-authored with Alice Livingston, it showcases the couple's literary collaboration and their experiences abroad.
