Poems : MDCCCXXX-MDCCCXXIII.
1862
viii, 112 pages ; 17 cm Printed in an edition of approximately 150 copies. Hotten's advertisement precipitated a successful prosecution for piracy by Tennyson, and the edition was suppressed. Hotten claimed that it was printed in Canada by Backwoods' Press, although Tennyson's bill of complaint disputed that claim "This pirated edition of Tennyson's suppressed poems (taken from the Poems, chiefly lyrical of 1830 and the Poems of 1833) was advertised by John Camden Hotten in his catalogue ... Part I, 1862 ... This interesting little volume was compiled and edited by the late Mr. J. Dykes Campbell ... During his stay in Toronto he caused the book to be privately printed at his own cost. The work was done at the printing-house of Messrs. W.C. Chewitt & Co. ..."--Wise Sinclair, D. "The first pirated edition of Tennyson's Poems."
