Pharsalia; Dramatic Episodes of the Civil Wars
Pharsalia, also known as De Bello Civili, is an epic poem by the Roman poet Lucan, written in the 1st century AD. The poem chronicles the civil war between Julius Caesar and Pompey the Great, centering on the pivotal Battle of Pharsalus in 48 BC. Notable for its lack of divine intervention and supernatural elements, Pharsalia is a significant example of Roman historic epic literature from the Neronian era and remains unfinished due to Lucan's early death. The work has gained renewed scholarly interest in recent decades.
