Percy Wynn, or Making a Boy of Him
Percy Wynn has never known boyhood. Raised among ten sisters in a house ruled by doting females, he arrives at St. Maure's boarding school as something of a curiosity: all soft manners and gentle sensibilities, with not a rough-and-tumble bone in his body. The other boys take one look at this "Mamma's darling" and set themselves a project. Tom Playfair and his friends intend to remake Percy in their image, to teach him how to be a boy among boys. But Percy's journey is more than a comedy of manners. As he stumbles through football, fistfights, and the complex hierarchies of schoolboy society, he must decide what kind of man he wants to become. The question is whether becoming "a real boy" means abandoning everything he was raised to be, or finding the courage to be himself.
