Penny magazine of the Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge, Issue 1
Published in 1832, 'The Penny Magazine of the Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge' was created by Charles Knight as a low-cost publication aimed at the working class. Competing with 'Chambers's Edinburgh Journal,' it offered short essays on various topics deemed important by its publisher. Despite initial success, the magazine ultimately appealed more to the upper classes and ceased publication after a few years due to a lack of broad interest.
