On the Heavens
On the Heavens, written by Aristotle in the 4th century BCE, is his principal work on cosmology. In this treatise, Aristotle presents arguments for the spherical nature of the Earth, supported by observations of lunar eclipses, and introduces his theories on gravity, positing that objects containing 'earth' are drawn toward the center of the Universe. He also discusses the ideas of the Pythagoreans and Democritus, exploring the nature of matter and the cosmos. This work is notable for its foundational influence on later astronomical and philosophical thought.
