On Duties

On Duties (De Officiis) is a philosophical work by Marcus Tullius Cicero, exploring the concepts of virtue and expediency, and the conflicts that can arise between them. Written in the 1st century BCE, it has been influential in both secular and religious thought, being studied by notable figures such as St. Ambrose and St. Jerome. This text was the second book printed on Gutenberg's press and has been a standard in educational institutions like Eton College. It was translated by Walter Miller.
