Miss Meredith

Miss Meredith, published in 1889, is the final novel by Amy Levy, a notable feminist writer and poet. The story follows Elsie Meredith, a young English woman who becomes a governess in Italy for the Marchesa Brogi, as she grapples with her family's struggles and her own identity amidst cultural differences and emerging romantic feelings. The novel explores themes of isolation, familial duty, and the complexities of womanhood during the late 19th century, reflecting Levy's pioneering perspectives on the New Woman and Jewish life in Victorian England.
