Main Street (Version 2)
Main Street, published in 1920, is Sinclair Lewis' first major novel that follows Carol Milford, an ambitious librarian who marries a country doctor and moves to the small town of Gopher Prairie, Minnesota. Despite her dreams of cultural enrichment and community improvement, Carol faces the harsh realities of small-town life, including ignorance and bigotry, which ultimately stifle her spirit. The novel was a significant success and contributed to Lewis becoming the first American to win the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1930.
