Last Trail
In the dying days of the frontier, two men ride through a wilderness on the edge of transformation. Jonathan Zane, a frontiersman with a violent past, and his relentless companion Lew Wetzel, a legend in his own time whose name alone sends shivers through settlement and village alike, push deeper into the Ohio country where the last free lands await. They are hunters, yes, but also something more: architects of a new world who must first burn the old one down. As settlers trickle into the territory, hope collides with ancient powers, both the Native nations who defend their homelands and the outlaws who prey on everyone. Romance blooms between Zane and a pioneer woman's daughter, tender and fierce against the backdrop of constant danger. But the frontier takes what it wants, and the final trail these men walk will demand everything they've got. Grey writes with the blood-pulse rhythm of the West itself, capturing a moment when America was still deciding what it would become.
