Land that Time Forgot

Land that Time Forgot
World War I has just ripped their world apart. Now something far older is waiting. When a German U-boat and the British ship chasing it are destroyed near a mysterious island, the handful of survivors wash ashore on Caspak, a place where evolution never happened. Dinosaurs still walk. Pterodactyls shadow the skies. And the island's native human population ranges from brutish ape-men to something almost, terrifyingly, human. The survivors must journey across this primeval nightmare to reach a ship supposedly waiting on the other side. But Caspak doesn't let visitors leave easily. It has its own plans for them. Burroughs created a genre with this novel: the lost world adventure where ancient forces collide with modern man, and nature always wins.
