Jack the Englishman

Jack is a boy caught between worlds. Raised on his grandfather's sprawling Tasmanian farm, he carries the weight of English heritage like a birthright his absent father left behind. His father, a naval captain somewhere across the globe, exists more as legend than reality, a photograph on the mantle, letters that arrive too seldom, a longing that shapes Jack's every waking moment. The farm provides anchor: the cheer of agricultural life, the rough companionship of new friends, the sturdy presence of a grandfather who loves him. But Jack cannot stop wondering what it would mean to truly belong to the name he traces on his father's letters, to measure himself against the sea captain he has never truly known.
