Iphigenia in Aulis (Way translation)
Iphigenia in Aulis is a tragedy by Euripides, written between 408 and 406 BC, and is his last extant work. The play centers on Agamemnon's moral dilemma as he faces the decision to sacrifice his daughter, Iphigenia, to appease the goddess Artemis and ensure the Greek fleet can sail to Troy. This work explores themes of duty, sacrifice, and the tragic consequences of war, utilizing tragic irony for dramatic effect. The translation by Arthur Sanders Way provides a modern interpretation of this classic tale, first produced posthumously in 405 BC.
