Electra (Murray Translation)
Electra, a tragedy by Euripides, was written in 410 BC and explores themes of vengeance and familial loyalty. The play centers on Electra's intense hatred for her mother, Clytemnestra, and stepfather, Aegisthus, following the murder of her father, Agamemnon. Unlike Sophocles, Euripides presents a more psychologically complex narrative, questioning the morality of revenge and portraying Clytemnestra with empathy. This translation by Murray highlights Euripides' unique approach to tragedy, emphasizing emotional depth and moral ambiguity.
