Heilige Weten
Heilige Weten, published in 1916, is the fourth and final installment of Louis Couperus's novel cycle 'De boeken der kleine zielen'. Set ten years after the previous book, Zielenschemering, it follows Addy, now a doctor, who is married to Mathilde and has two children. Living in a gloomy villa in Driebergen, Addy becomes the central figure of his extended family, navigating their needs while neglecting his own. The novel explores themes of familial duty and personal sacrifice within a richly detailed social context.
