Heathen Slaves and Christian Rulers

Heathen Slaves and Christian Rulers, published in 1907 by Elizabeth Wheeler Andrew, is a historical account that explores the realities of slavery and prostitution in colonial Hong Kong. The book critiques the moral failures of Christians who participated in systems of oppression against vulnerable women, particularly in the sex trade. It examines how Western powers, under the pretense of civilization, contributed to the exploitation and commodification of Chinese women, revealing a network of complicity that allowed brothel slavery to thrive.
