Hanuumanin Tytär: 3-Näytöksinen Apinakomedia
A forgotten Finnish gem of theatrical absurdity, Lauri Haarla's three-act comedy transports us to an ape kingdom on the eve of paradise's end. Hanuuman, the monkey king, rules his whimsical court with his wife Naakka, son Hyyppä, and daughter Inra, navigating the absurdities of power, love, and tradition against the backdrop of a world about to change forever. The dialogue crackles with rhyme and playful banter, where wrestling matches double as marital spats and political intrigue wears a fur coat. Yet beneath the comedy lies something sharper: a satirical lens on society, tradition colliding with modernity, and the pomposity of power itself. The anthropomorphic premise allows Haarla to comment on human folly while wearing the mask of monkeys. This is theatrical silliness with teeth, a comedy that uses apes to hold a mirror to humanity.
