Green Goddess, a play in four acts
Green Goddess is a four-act play written by William Archer that premiered in December 1920. Set in the remote Himalayan kingdom of Rukh, it follows British Major Crespin, his wife Lucilla, and their pilot Dr. Traherne, who face romantic tensions and the looming threat of the Raja, who desires Lucilla for himself. The play's success led to adaptations, including a novel by Louise Jordan Miln in 1922 and two film versions in 1923 and 1930, with George Arliss starring in both adaptations. The play is notable for inspiring the creation of the 'Green Goddess' salad dressing in tribute to Arliss.
