Froth

Froth (La Espuma), written by Armando Palacio Valdés in the late 19th century, is a satirical novel set in Madrid that explores themes of youth, wealth, and familial conflict. The story follows Clementina, who, as she loses her youth, becomes involved with a younger lover, while her father, the Duke de Requena, seeks to outmaneuver his business rivals. This work, notable for its critique of aristocratic society, was translated into English by Edmund Gosse as part of the Heinemann International Library series, which aimed to introduce lesser-known European authors to English-speaking audiences.
