The journal of Ephraim Agustus Emmerton, Salem shipmaster and merchant, describes his experiences at the Chinchas Islands collecting guano (Mar. 1858 to Apr. 1858 and Dec. 1860 to Jan. 1861). It also contains logs of the amount of guano collected and stored aboard the bark Sophronia (1854, 1858, 1859, 1861, and 1862); and a crew manifest for the Sophronia (1860 to 1861). Bound with the bark Sophronia and Emmerton's autobiography (1843 to 1860). Gift of the estate of Mrs. Lucy D. Emmerton; February 4, 1910. Digitized in 2021 with funding from the Salem Marine Society.
