Double Falsehood; or, The Distrest Lovers

Lewis Theobald

Double Falsehood; or, The Distrest Lovers is a play by Lewis Theobald, believed to be based on a story from Cervantes' Don Quixote and possibly a reconstruction of a lost work by Shakespeare and Fletcher. Written in the early 18th century, the plot revolves around Duke Angelo and his son Roderick, who are concerned about the reckless behavior of the duke's younger son, Henriquez. They enlist the help of his friend Julio to spy on him, leading to a series of romantic entanglements and misunderstandings.
