Dorothy Dainty at Glenmore

Two girls, one grand adventure. When Dorothy Dainty and her dearest friend Nancy Ferris learn they'll spend months at a fashionable girls' school in Glenmore, the world suddenly feels full of possibility. Left behind by traveling parents and guided by their devoted Aunt Charlotte, the girls depart the familiar Stone House for an existence brimming with new friends, strict teachers, and the intoxicating freedom of youth. At Glenmore, Dorothy and Nancy find themselves among vivid personalities: the mischievous Vera Vane, whose letters have whetted their appetite for adventure; the eccentric Patricia and her roommate Arabella, whose comic exploits light up the corridors; and the formidable Miss Fenler, whose rigid rules both constrain and define the girls' new domain. School life unfolds through friendships forged, challenges met, and small rebellions mounted against the edicts of authority. This early 20th-century gem captures something timeless: that breathless moment when childhood begins tilting toward adulthood, and every encounter feels like the opening chapter of something magnificent. For readers who cherish the gentle pleasures of vintage girls' school stories, where mischief wears a pinafore and adventure means choosing the right friend.
