Descubrimiento del río de las Amazonas

Written in the 16th century by Gaspar de Carvajal, 'Descubrimiento del río de las Amazonas' chronicles the 1542 expedition led by Francisco de Orellana along the Amazon River. The journey, aimed at discovering the legendary El Dorado and the Land of Cinnamon, covers 4,800 kilometers in seven months through uncharted territory. Carvajal, a Dominican chronicler and participant in the expedition, provides a firsthand account of the challenges faced and the rich, yet perilous, environment encountered, ultimately leading to the river's naming and opening the Amazon region to the world.
