Culture and Anarchy

Culture and Anarchy
Culture and Anarchy is a collection of essays by Matthew Arnold, first published in 1867-68 and compiled into a book in 1869. The work articulates Arnold's vision of culture as a means to achieve societal perfection and unity, advocating for the dissemination of the best thoughts and ideas across all classes. His influential arguments on culture's role in addressing societal issues remained significant in cultural debates until the mid-20th century. The preface added in 1875 includes the famous assertion that culture is 'the best which has been thought and said.'
