Civics: As Applied Sociology

Civics: As Applied Sociology, published in 1915 by Sir Geddes Patrick, is a scholarly examination of urban environments through a sociological lens. The book emphasizes the necessity of understanding cities via concrete observations of their geographic and historical contexts, advocating for a practical approach to civics. Geddes introduces the concept of a 'Regional Survey' to analyze cities as dynamic entities shaped by various factors, laying the groundwork for scientific urban planning and improved civic services. This work is notable for linking social surveys to actionable civic engagement, aiming to enhance the quality of life in urban settings.
