Chessmen of Mars (version 3)
Chessmen of Mars, published in 1922, is the fifth book in Edgar Rice Burroughs' Barsoom series. The story follows Tara of Helium, daughter of John Carter, who becomes stranded on Mars after her flier is caught in a hurricane. Captured by the Kaldanes and later the Manatorians, she finds herself in a deadly tournament of jetan, a Martian chess game played with live pieces.
