Beehive for Bairns, Vol. 2: From 1st Size to 2 Years: With Special Supplement: Bed Jackets

A charming collection of knitting patterns from 1940, designed for creating handmade baby garments from birth through two years. This practical volume offers detailed instructions for coats, bonnets, sleeping suits, mittens, and the eponymous bed jackets, each pattern meticulously sized and measured. The book welcomes knitters with an affectionate dedication to those who love babies, then organizes its projects by age and size, making it easy to find the perfect pattern for a growing child. What elevates this beyond a mere instruction manual is its imaginative spirit: alongside straightforward patterns for beginners, it includes clever ideas for transforming adult garments into miniature versions, adding particular appeal to homemade baby clothes. The text emphasizes the importance of using high-quality wool specifically chosen for delicate baby skin, grounding every project in practical care. Whether you're a historian of domestic life, a vintage craft enthusiast, or a parent seeking to create something truly personal, these patterns carry the intimate warmth of a bygone era when hand-knitted clothing represented both economy and love.
