Published in 1866, 'Armadale' is a novel by English author Wilkie Collins, recognized as one of the first modern detective novels. The story revolves around the intertwined fates of two men named Allan Armadale and their sons, who are distant cousins, culminating in the murder of one of the fathers by his namesake. Collins, also known for 'The Woman in White' and 'The Moonstone', sets the narrative across various locations, including a German spa and 19th-century London. The first German edition was translated by Marie Scott and released in six volumes.
