Published in 1866, 'Armadale' is a novel by English author Wilkie Collins, recognized as one of the first modern detective novels. The story revolves around two men named Allan Armadale and their sons, also named Allan Armadale, whose lives are intertwined by the murder of one of the fathers. Set in various locations including a German spa and 19th-century London, the novel explores themes of identity and fate. The first German edition was translated by Marie Scott and released in six volumes.
