Aeneid
The Aeneid is a Latin epic poem written by Virgil in the 1st century BC. It narrates the journey of Aeneas, a Trojan hero, as he travels to Italy to become the ancestor of the Romans. The first half focuses on his wanderings from Troy, while the second half depicts the Trojans' war against the Latins. Commissioned by Emperor Augustus, the poem serves to glorify Rome and contains political commentary, particularly regarding Aeneas' relationship with Dido, reflecting on Augustus' rival, Mark Antony.
