A Short History of Newnham College, Cambridge

A Short History of Newnham College, Cambridge, written by Alice Gardner and published in 1921, chronicles the establishment and development of Newnham College, one of the first women's colleges at Cambridge University. The book details the college's founding in the early 1870s and its official recognition in 1881, highlighting the efforts of key figures like Professor Henry Sidgwick and Miss Anne J. Clough in advocating for women's higher education. Gardner's narrative captures the challenges faced by early female students and the communal spirit that defined their pursuit of academic excellence in a restrictive environment.
