Lorn Campbell was a prominent Two-Spirit Cree-Métis educator and advocate whose work significantly impacted Indigenous engagement in academia. Born in Regina, Saskatchewan, Campbell experienced the challenges of the Sixties Scoop, being placed into foster care at a young age and later adopted by a white family. Despite growing up with limited connection to her heritage, she embarked on a journey of rediscovery in the early 1990s, ultimately reuniting with her mother and five siblings. This personal quest not only shaped her identity but also fueled her passion for advocating for Indigenous rights and education. Campbell's academic achievements include undergraduate degrees in Indigenous Studies and Psychology, along with a master's degree in Adult Education. She served as the inaugural associate vice-president of Indigenous Engagement at the University of Regina and previously directed the Shatitsirótha' Waterloo Indigenous Student Centre. Her MA thesis, "Nikawiy: A Cree Woman's Experience," reflects her commitment to highlighting Indigenous narratives. In 2019, she made history as one of the first Two-Spirit individuals to run for federal office in Canada, representing the NDP in the Waterloo electoral district. Through her advocacy, educational initiatives, and personal story, Campbell has left a lasting legacy in the fight for Indigenous representation and social justice.
