Ermete Pierotti

Ermete Pierotti was an influential Italian engineer and archaeologist renowned for his extensive work in Jerusalem during the mid-19th century. Born in Pieve Fosciana, he served as a captain in the Corps of Royal Piedmontese army engineers for the Kingdom of Sardinia. His expertise in architecture and archaeology led him to Jerusalem, where he worked from 1854 to 1861 under the direction of Surraya Pasha, contributing significantly to the understanding of the city's historical and topographical landscape. Pierotti's most notable work, "Jerusalem Explored," published in 1864, provided a comprehensive examination of the city's features, blending meticulous survey data with rich historical context.
