Zephyrs

Zephyrs takes its name from the gentlest of winds in Greek mythology, the tender breeze associated with spring flowers and quiet love. Kate R. Stiles' 1879 collection carries that same spirit: lyrical, reflective verses that move through life like warm air through an open window. She writes about what matters most - the people we love and lose, the small beauties of the natural world, the way seasons turn and we turn with them. Many poems grapple directly with mortality. "The Dead" and "Lines on the Death of a Young Man" face grief without flinching, while "Clover Blossoms" and "The Flight of the Robin" find wonder in ordinary moments. Throughout, Stiles maintains a hopeful韧带, an insistence that sorrow and beauty can coexist. The collection is dedicated to "Effie" - whether friend, sister, or deeper love - lending these pages an intimate, personal quality. These are poems for quiet mornings, for the aftermath of loss, for readers who find solace in watching a bird outside their window. They do not dazzle with cleverness but instead offer something rarer: the comfort of being understood, of having your own tender grief given gentle language.
