With Our Soldiers in France

Sherwood Eddy traveled to France during the Great War not as a soldier, but as a witness. A missionary and activist, he walked among American forces stationed along the Western Front, bringing back something more valuable than dispatches: the raw, unfiltered voices of young men caught in the machinery of modern warfare. With vivid, unflinching prose, he paints the atmosphere of Flanders, the relentless thunder of artillery, the scarred earth where boys in uniform lived, bled, and died. But this is no detached war correspondence. Eddy introduces us to individual soldiers, listening as they speak of physical hardships and the invisible battles waged within. Their stories become a meditation on sacrifice, faith, and the strange brotherhood forged in mud and horror. The book stands as both tribute and interrogation, honoring the courage of American troops while refusing to look away from the moral wreckage conflict leaves behind. "With Our Soldiers in France" endures as a vital primary document, a testament to what Eddy called 'the human cost of such profound global strife.'
