William—An Englishman
William Tully, a quintessential English clerk, drifts through life, a creature of habit and expectation until his mother's death ignites a dormant spark of self-determination. He plunges into the tumultuous currents of Edwardian political activism, finding purpose and love with Griselda Watkins, a fervent suffragette. Their idyllic honeymoon in the Belgian Ardennes in the summer of 1914, however, becomes a crucible as the shadow of World War I descends, forcing them to confront horrors far beyond the social skirmishes they knew back home. This is a journey from quiet conformity to the heart of an international maelstrom, seen through the eyes of two innocents caught in the crossfire.
