When the Holy Ghost is Come

The Holy Spirit does not merely visit - He invades. This is the conviction that pulses through Brengle's 1909 treatise, a book written not from academic distance but from a man who has tasted fire and cannot stop testifying to its heat. Brengle was an architect of Salvation Army theology, and this work carries the movement's characteristic urgency: faith is not a calm intellectual assent but a radical, life-shattering encounter with God's presence. The text moves through the Pentecostal experience - the disciples before and after, the transformation from fear to flame - but its real power lies in what comes next. Brengle insists the Spirit does not merely comfort; He convicts. He strips away self-deception, revealing both the staggering holiness of God and the staggering sinfulness of the human heart. This is not gentle religion. It is surgical. Yet the knife always moves toward healing. The Spirit leads to true repentance, true confession, true cleansing. For anyone exhausted by polite faith, this book offers something raw and real.
