W. A. G.'s Tale

A boy finds his voice while recovering from illness, penning the story of his own uncertain life. William Ainsworth Gordon, called Billy, has just watched his beloved Uncle Burt leave for the Philippines, and now he must build a new life with his two aunts, May and Edith. The aunts plan a move to the countryside, and Billy wrestles with mixed feelings about the changes ahead: excitement at possibility, grief at what's been lost, and the strange comfort of putting pen to paper. Turnbull captures something delicate here: the way a child processes absence and adaptation, the humor and poignancy that coexist in a young mind. This is a quiet book about small adventures and smaller heartbreaks, about learning to belong somewhere new. It will appeal to readers who cherish books like Anne of Green Gables or Little Women, stories where growth happens not through dramatic events but through the gradual accumulation of everyday moments and the people who shape us.
