Two Colored Women with the American Expeditionary Forces

Published in 1920, 'Two Colored Women with the American Expeditionary Forces' by Addie W. Hunton and Kathryn M. Johnson recounts the experiences of two African American women serving with the YMCA during World War I. The authors document their support for African American soldiers, highlighting their contributions and the racial dynamics of the time. Through personal narratives, they reflect on their motivations, the emotional farewells to loved ones, and the stark contrast between their experiences in Europe and the segregation they faced in America. This work offers a unique perspective on the dual struggle for democracy abroad and equality at home.
