Twelve Good Musicians: From John Bull to Henry Purcell, written by Frederick Bridge and first published in 1575, examines the lives and contributions of twelve significant English musicians from the 17th century. The book addresses the often-overlooked musical history of this period, challenging the notion of it being a 'blank slate' in English music. Bridge highlights key figures, starting with John Bull, the first Gresham Professor of Music, and explores their lasting impact on the development of English music.
