Traditions of the North American Indians, Vol. 1

Traditions of the North American Indians, Vol. 1, written by James Athearn Jones and first published in 1830, is a collection of folklore from various North American Indian tribes. This work serves as a revised edition of 'Tales of an Indian Camp' and aims to preserve the traditional stories and legends that reflect the cultural practices and beliefs of indigenous peoples. Drawing from his childhood experiences with the Pawkunnawkuts tribe, Jones documents these narratives to highlight their significance and authenticity, beginning with the tale 'The Man of Ashes,' which explores themes of war and spirituality.
