Todteninsel is a historical novel by Richard Voß, set during the Christian persecutions in ancient Rome under Emperor Nero. The story follows Tullus and Acca, who grow up sheltered on a burial temple island with the priest Atinas. When Atinas departs for Rome to partake in the persecutions, the curious Tullus and Acca decide to follow him, finding themselves caught between the conflicts of the old and new religions. This novel explores themes of faith, innocence, and the clash of ideologies during a tumultuous period.
