Time in the Play of Hamlet

Published in the late 19th century, Edward Payson Vining's 'Time in the Play of Hamlet' is a scholarly analysis of the temporal structure within Shakespeare's tragedy 'Hamlet.' Vining examines the timeline of events, arguing that the play unfolds over a defined period rather than the extended durations suggested by some critics. He meticulously breaks down the action act by act, highlighting key moments that clarify the narrative's chronology, including Hamlet's feigned madness and Polonius's death. This work challenges existing interpretations and provides a coherent understanding of time in the play.
