Through Mountains and Canyons - the Canadian Rockies

These photographs capture a world that no longer exists in quite the same way. The Canadian Rockies, immortalized by William Notman & Son in the early 20th century, rise before us in pristine silence: glaciers that have since retreated, peaks unclimbed, lakes so turquoise they seem impossible. This is wilderness rendered with Victorian precision and wonder. The collection documents landmarks that have become sacred to generations of travelers: the fairytale spires of Moraine Lake, Banff Springs Hotel perched like a castle in the mist, unnamed glaciers grinding their slow way down granite walls. Each image is a meditation on scale. The human figure, when it appears, is dwarfed but not diminished. We are guests here. What elevates this beyond a simple picture book is its historical weight. These are not merely photographs; they are time capsules. They document a landscape before the modern world fully arrived, when the trains were new and the hotels were novelties carved from the forest. For anyone who has stood before these mountains, or anyone who dreams of such places, this collection offers a window into an earlier age of witness.
