Thoughts on Religion at the Front

Written in 1917 during World War I, 'Thoughts on Religion at the Front' by N. S. Talbot reflects on the state of Christian faith among soldiers. As a chaplain-general, Talbot critiques the relationship between war and religious belief, noting how extreme circumstances challenge traditional convictions. He examines the spiritual condition of British soldiers, highlighting a disconnect between their natural spirituality and organized religion, and advocates for a deeper commitment to God amidst the traumas of war.
