The World English Bible (WEB): Exodus
The second book of the Bible, Exodus recounts one of humanity's most powerful stories of oppression and liberation. The narrative chronicles the Hebrew people's descent into slavery in Egypt, Pharaoh's cruel decree to kill newborn Hebrew boys, and the extraordinary events that follow: a Hebrew infant floated in a basket among the reeds, rescued and raised in the Egyptian royal household, who grows up to become the prophet Moses. After witnessing his people's suffering, Moses encounters the divine presence in a burning bush and begins his mission to demand freedom for the Israelites. The account builds toward the ten plagues, the dramatic parting of the Red Sea, and the receiving of the Ten Commandments at Mount Sinai. This ancient text has shaped civilization's understanding of freedom, faith, and covenant for millennia, its themes resonating through abolition movements, civil rights struggles, and spiritual traditions worldwide.
